This exquisite antique Nippon scalloped bowl is a testament to the craftsmanship and elegance of early 20th-century Japanese porcelain. The bowl boasts a stunning gold key border, delicately painted violets, and intricate hand-applied gold moriage beading. The back of the bowl has the mark of Hand Painted, Nippon, with an M-wreath in green. This mark reveals its origin: crafted in Japan between 1911 and 1921, then imported by the Morimura Bros company. The bowl’s shape is both practical and beautiful. With two handles for easy handling and a scalloped edge. It measures 7.375" (18.73 cm) across the handles and 6.625" (16.83 cm) across the short side.
Despite its age, this bowl remains in good condition. While there are minor signs of wear, including paint loss to the trim and a hairline crack near the center, these imperfections only add character. The vibrant decoration and crisp details continue to captivate.
